42: Players, including Alex Ramirez on Saturday, who have reached the 2,000-hit milestone in Japan, which is considered a similar honor to what 3,000 hits is here in the States. Ramirez, who homered, became the first foreign-born player to do it, after finishing his MLB career with only 86 hits.
36: The temperature in Portland, Maine, that convinced the Double-A Sea Dogs to postpone Saturday’s game against Trenton. The wind chill was 26 degrees, and the ground had not thawed from the previous night. Skates or spikes is not a decision that should come up in baseball.
16: RBIs in first four games by Chris Davis, who the Orioles said broke the MLB mark of 12. Davis also became the fourth player in history to homer in each of his first four games, joining Willie Mays, Mark McGwire and Nelson Cruz. He’s also just the second — along with Mays — to do it free of a PED scandal.
0: Hits for Josh Hamilton in Friday’s return to Arlington, Texas, where the former Ranger was harassed by fans for saying that it wasn’t a “baseball town.” Hamilton imitated a QB at one point to antagonize the crowd, which is pretty much what Tony Romo does across the parking lot on a regular basis.
