Mariano Rivera named American League Comeback Player of the Year

Mariano Rivera has been named the American League Comeback Player of the Year. Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano earned the honor in the National League.
In his final MLB season, Rivera, who announced his retirement before the 2013 season, had a 2.11 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 44 saves in 64 appearances. He compiled a 6-2 record and struck out 54 batters. The 43-year-old closer was returning from a torn ACL after making just nine appearances in 2012.
Liriano previously won the AL Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2010, becoming the first player to win the award twice.
