Mark Teixeira was the national player of the year in 2000 and the 1999 national freshman of the year (among other awards) while at Georgia Tech. But the Yankees' first baseman never made it to the College World Series with Georgia Tech. He fell just short in 2000 as Tech lost in the Super Regionals.

So what does he think about Stony Brook's run from underdog to participant in the 2012 CWS in Omaha, Neb.?

"It’s great to see," Teixeira told Newsday's Erik Boland. "That just speaks to baseball in general. If a team gets hot and they pitch and they get big hits, they can go on a run. That’s the beauty of baseball. Anyone has a chance."
