Mark Teixeira out at least a week

Mark Teixeira wasn’t feeling much better yesterday Tuesday and it sounds like his Grade 1 calf sprain is going to keep him sidelined for, at minimum, the next seven days or so.

“I’ll be really happy if we get him back in a week,” Girardi said. “If this was not right around Sept. 1 [when rosters expand], I’m not so sure we wouldn’t have DL’d him. But our thought is, it’s anywhere from 7, 8 to 15 days and if you DL him now, it’s a guaranteed 15 days where he might have been ready.”

Said Teixeira: “We’ll just keep treating it and work real hard to get it as healthy as I can as quick as I can.”
