McDonald's 3-run HR spurs Red Sox
Darnell McDonald hit a three-run homer and pinch hitter Yamaico Navarro went deep for the first time as the visiting Boston Red Sox beat the Houston Astros, 10-4, Saturday night. Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis had three hits and an RBI each for the Red Sox.
Brewers 8, Twins 7: Nyjer Morgan hit a two-out, two-run double and scored on pinch hitter George Kottaras' single to cap a four-run ninth inning for visiting Milwaukee. Morgan also hit a two-run homer in the sixth and tripled and scored in the eighth.
The Twins blew a 7-0 lead built on 13 hits in four innings. They had one hit the rest of the way. Michael Cuddyer and Danny Valencia homered on consecutive pitches in the third for the Twins, who had four straight two-out RBI singles in the fourth.
Padres 1, Mariners 0: Cameron Maybin walked on a 2-and-2 pitch and scored the only run of the game on Antonio Gonzalez's single in the fifth inning for visiting San Diego. A video review of the at-bat confirmed that the pitch that was called high by plate umpire Phil Cuzzi should have made the count 3-and-2, but no one argued.
White Sox 1, Cubs 0: Phil Humber went seven innings and Juan Pierre had an RBI single in the sixth at Wrigley Field.
Indians 3, Reds 1: Michael Brantley hit a three-run homer for visiting Cleveland.
Braves 5, Orioles 4: David Ross hit a grand slam in host Atlanta's fifth straight win.
Marlins 9, Rangers 5: Hanley Ramirez hit a grand slam and a solo shot as visiting Florida overcame Josh Hamilton's two homers.
Rays 5, Cardinals 1: Casey Kotchman had a three-run double with two outs in the sixth and scored on Justin Ruggiano two-run homer for visiting Tampa Bay.
Diamondbacks 4, A's 2: Chris Young had three hits and four RBIs for visiting Arizona.
Angels 7, Dodgers 1: Vernon Wells homered as Jered Weaver (10-4) beat Clayton Kershaw (8-4) for the host Angels.
Pirates, Nationals split. Garrett Jones and Andrew McCutchen hit back-to-back homers in the eighth as visiting Pittsburgh took Game 1, 5-3. Ivan Rodriguez singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth as the Nats won Game 2, 4-3.-- AP
