Mets don’t witness Royals getting their World Series rings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This time the Mets were spared from having their World Series loss rubbed in their faces.
When the Royals received their championship rings from baseball commissioner Rob Manfred in a pregame ceremony before Tuesday’s game, there were no Mets standing along the third-base line watching it all unfold.
That was where they were trapped Sunday after player introductions as the Royals showed a highlight video, then raised their World Series banner.
The ring ceremony actually lasted longer than the banner raising did, but at least it was less awkward for the Mets.
Before the game Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas praised the Mets for stoically watching Sunday’s proceedings.
“It’s a great ballclub over there,” he said. “They made it to the World Series because they’re a great team. They’re a fun team to watch. For them to have to stand there for that I’m sure was tough for them, but they all handled it with class.
“It’s definitely a disappointing feeling [to lose the World Series], but it’s really classy on their end to stand there for that.”
As for the ring presentation itself, manager Ned Yost presumably spoke for the entire organization when he said, “Very awesome.”
