Mets manager Terry Collins supportive of Frank Francisco's outburst

Mets manager Terry Collins spoke with Frank Francisco about his water cooler-throwing meltdown in the Mets’ dugout on Wednesday night and was supportive of the closer’s need to vent.

Francisco had just allowed two runs in the ninth inning of the Mets’ 5-2 loss to the Rockies when he exploded in the dugout. Afterward, he sat in front of his locker with his head in his hands and declined to speak to reporters.

“He survived it,” Collins said. “One of the things that we can kind of take for granted sometimes when you see a guy like Frank is that persona that they don’t care. They do care. They care a lot about how they do. I told Frank, ‘I’m glad you got angry about the results.’”

Francisco, who did not pitch in Thursday’s 1-0 loss to the Rockies, has a 6.42 ERA. He is signed for next season and will make $6.5 million.
