Mets pick up catcher Landon Powell

The Mets signed catcher Landon Powell to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training.
Powell, 30, spent last season with the Astros’ Triple-A affiliate. The A’s drafted Powell 24th overall in the 2004 draft. He is a lifetime .207 hitter in parts of three seasons with Oakland.
