The potential Long Island Rail Road strike this weekend could impact fans coming from Long Island to Citi Field to watch the Subway Series on Saturday and Sunday.
In an email to Newsday on Wednesday, the Mets detailed their plans to ensure that fans who usually take the LIRR can still get to and from the ballpark.
The Mets have created a new shuttle line departing from the Manhasset LIRR Station to assist fans traveling from the Port Washington Line area. Round-trip shuttle tickets cost $8.99 per ticket and $25 for a family of four.
If the strike, scheduled to start at 12:01 a.m. Saturday if talks fail, does not occur and the shuttle service is not needed, fans automatically will receive refunds.
Throughout this season, the Mets already had been offering shuttles, which are coach buses, from two spots on Long Island: the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City and Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station. Those tickets are available for purchase directly on the Mets’ website for $8.99 per ticket and $25.04 for a family of four. The Mets said they will add additional shuttle buses at those locations for this weekend's series against the Yankees if an LIRR strike goes into effect.
Parking at Citi Field has been significantly impacted due to the construction of the sports and entertainment district surrounding the ballpark. The Mets have offered fans the opportunity to prepay for parking through a link on the Mets’ website for $40. Drivers who do not prepay will be charged $50 upon arrival (cash not accepted).
The team also has offered discounted parking close to the park, with fans being able to save over 50% on spots at the garage at Skyview Mall (a 10-minute walk from the ballpark), the surface lot or garage at Flushing Commons (a one-stop subway ride) or the underground garage at Flushing Plaza (a walk or one-stop subway ride).
The Mets are expecting near-capacity crowds for this weekend’s series against the Yankees, which begins at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
