KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Many Mets fans had tickets to Game 6 of the 2015 World Series at Kauffman Stadium. They went unused.

When the Mets and Royals finally got around to meeting here Sunday night, there certainly were plenty of Mets fans in the building, but noticeably fewer than is customary for a New York team on the road for a big event.

There is no shame in that. Tickets to the Royals’ World Series banner-raising were difficult to come by, and Royals fans were out in force.

Some of the Mets fans who did show up traveled from the New York area. Others had shorter trips.

Take Harve Allen and his wife, Rhonda, who came up from Oklahoma City. Wait . . . Oklahoma City?

Harve, 55, grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma, without a major league team to call his own. One Christmas his family gave him a Tom Seaver electronic baseball game, complete with a replica of Shea Stadium and a picture of Seaver that he affixed to his wall.

Twenty-two years ago the Allens welcomed twins. One of them is named Kyle Seaver Allen.

Was Rhonda on board with that? “She’s the one who suggested it,” Harve said. “I had mentioned it before and she said, ‘Well, how about naming him Seaver?’ I was like, ‘Are you serious? I can do that?’ ”

Billy Hansen, who is from Abilene, Kansas, came to the game wearing a replica Mike Piazza jersey with his wife, Cathy, and son, Drew, 9, who wore a Mets shirt and a Royals cap.

Hansen, 46, said his parents grew up Yankees fans in Brooklyn and on a 1976 visit to New York took him to two games at Shea Stadium.

Hansen said he did not have tickets to Game 6 in November, but he did make it to Game 2.

“It was a dream come true,” he said. “We were here for the All-Star Game in 2012 with our David Wright jerseys on . . . But we pull for the Royals when they’re not playing the Mets.”
