Mets' Schwinden performing well in Triple-A

With the Mets needing to call up at least one starter for Monday’s doubleheader against the Marlins, and possibly two, righthander Chris Schwinden probably deserves a shot for his performance at Triple-A Buffalo.

Schwinden, 24, began this season in the bullpen at Double-A Binghamton, but switched to a starting role when Dillon Gee was promoted to take Chris Young’s spot with the Mets. The Bisons probably didn’t notice the difference. Like Gee, Schwinden relies on location, with a fastball in the low 90s, a decent changeup and curveball.

Schwinden, a 22nd-round pick in the 2008 draft, is 7-7 with a 3.86 ERA in 24 starts for Buffalo. His last start was against Toledo on Wednesday, when he allowed nine hits and six earned runs in 5 1 / 3 innings.
