The Mets best week since...
You have to dial back a way to come up with a week that was better than this one has been for the Mets: Five wins in six games at home, against the two teams that Mets fans would most like to see their team beat. Two riveting victories against the Yankees then a three-game, three-shutout sweep against the Phillies.
Other than winning in the postseason, it doesn’t get any better than that for the Mets, right?
I’ve been trying to think of the last time the Mets had as good a week. I guess you’d have to say Oct. 5-12, 2006, when they swept the Dodgers in the Division Series (remember that wacky play at the plate in Game 1, and that John Maine was a last-minute replacement starter?) and then shut out the Cardinals in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.
What do you think? Was there anything in between that was as rewarding? Was that even as fulfilling as the past week has been?
