Rougned Odor hit a three-run homer off Hunter Harvey with two outs in the ninth inning, giving the visiting San Diego Padres an 8-6 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday that stopped a steak of five straight series losses.

“He is a guy that throws really hard,” Odor said. “I was looking for the fastball and he throw me that fastball and I was ready to go.”

Jake Cronenworth and Juan Soto singled leading off the ninth. Harvey (2-2) struck out Xander Bogaerts and Matt Carpenter, and Odor homered on an 1-and-0 fastball, lining the ball just inside the rightfield foul pole.

Odor also hit a two-run double and had five RBIs, one short of his career high. He has homered in consecutive games and has 10 hits in his last 12 games as he subs for the injured Manny Machado.

Soto reached base five times on four walks and a single.

Drew Carlton (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth for his first decision in parts of three major league seasons with Detroit and San Diego. Josh Hader struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 13th save.

San Diego, which took two of three from the Nationals, had not won a series since May 1-3 against Cincinnati.

Rays 6, Blue Jays 3: Zach Eflin became major leagues' third seven-game winner, and host Tampa Bay beat struggling Alek Manoah and Toronto to take three of four from the Blue Jays.

Eflin (7-1) allowed one run and six hits in seven innings as the major league-leading Rays (37-15) stole seven bases for the second time this season and improved to 24-5 at home.

Their latest loss prompted Toronto players to call a postgame meeting in response to a 2-9 stretch manager John Schneider described as being “punched right in the face.”

Atlanta 8, Philadelphia 5: Austin Riley hit a pair of long homers and pinch hitter Travis d’Arnaud came through with a tiebreaking, two-run single in the eighth inning for host Atlanta.D’Arnaud, sent up for slumping Michael Harris II with the bases loaded, lined a one-out single to leftfield off Gregory Soto.

Giants 5, Brewers 0: Michael Conforto was 4-for-4, including a solo homer for visiting San Francisco.

Cardinals 2, Reds 1: Nolan Gorman hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning and scored on a wild pitch, and Miles Mikolas (3-1) won his third straight decision for visiting St. Louis.

Rockies 7, Marlins 6: Ezequiel Tovar singled through a five-man infield during a ninth-inning storm, lifting host Colorado after the Rockies wasted a four-run lead in the top of the inning.

Tigers 7, White Sox 2: Alex Faedo struck out a career-high 10 in six innings for host Detroit. Chicago’s Lucas Giolito (3-4) walked seven and was tagged for four runs in 3 2/3 innings. He was also called for two pitch-clock violations. — AP
