Ortiz singles in winner but Wake stuck

David Ortiz had four hits, including a two-run homer and a go-ahead single off Joe Nathan with two outs in the ninth, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia followed with a broken-bat RBI double as Boston topped host Minnesota, 8-6, Monday night.

Tim Wakefield failed in his third try for win No. 200. He left with a 6-5 lead after seven innings but Jason Kubel, who homered in the fourth inning, singled home the tying run in the eighth off Alfredo Aceves (8-1).

Braves 8, Marlins 5: Alex Gonzalez hit a three-run homer and Dan Uggla extended his hitting streak to 29 games in Miami.

Rays 2, Royals 1: Casey Kotchman led off the bottom of the ninth with the winning home run.

Rangers 9, Mariners 2: Matt Harrison (10-8) allowed two runs, five hits and no walks in seven innings in 104-degree heat in Arlington, Texas.

White Sox 7, Orioles 6: A.J. Pierzynski homered and drove in three and Alex Rios singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth in Baltimore.

Rockies 10, Reds 7: Seth Smith homered twice and drove in four runs in Cincinnati.

Astros 9, D-backs 1: J.D. Martine's three-run homer triggered a five-run first inning in Phoenix.

Beltran out

Giants rightfielder Carlos Beltran was out of the lineup because of an injured right hand. He hurt it Sunday striking out swinging. X-rays were negative . . . The Phillies' Shane Victorino is appealing a three-game suspension imposed for his part in a weekend brawl in San Francisco. He also was fined an undisclosed amount. The Phillies' Placido Polanco and the Giants' Ramon Ramirez and Eli Whiteside were fined . . . Former Met Lenny Dykstra, 48, pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles to possession of human growth hormone and Ecstasy and to operating a large auto fraud scheme.
