Penny, Tigers dominate White Sox
Brad Penny had a no-hit bid broken up on an infield single in the sixth and the Tigers scored five in the fifth inning in their eighth straight win over the White Sox, 9-0, yesterday in Detroit.
With one out in the sixth inning, Brent Morel hit a chopper down the third-base line. Brandon Inge backhanded it behind the bag and made a throw in the dirt that first baseman Miguel Cabrera couldn't field cleanly to attempt a tag on Morel.
Penny (1-2) pitched seven innings, allowing a hit and walking two.
Red Sox 5, Angels 0: Daisuke Matsuzaka (2-2) allowed one hit and struck out nine in eight innings and Kevin Youkilis homered in Anaheim, Calif.
Rays 6, Blue Jays 4: Ben Zobrist hit a three-run homer , Johnny Damon homered, and David Price moved to 7-0 against host Toronto.
Rangers 3, Royals 1: Alexi Ogando (3-0) allowed one run as he pitched into the seventh inning in Arlington, Texas.
Twins 10, Indians 3: Justin Morneau had a two-run single in his return from a five-game absence and host Minnesota scored more than five runs for the first time this season.
Phillies 4, Padres 2: Ryan Howard hit a two-run, opposite-field double to left with two outs in the 11th inning in San Diego.
Astros 9, Brewers 6: Humberto Quintero hit a two-out, two-run double in the 10th inning in Milwaukee.
Rockies 3, Marlins 1: Jason Hammel allowed one run in 62/3 innings and sacrificed home a run in a two-run sixth in Miami.
Cubs 10, Dodgers 8: Jeff Baker hit a tiebreaking two-run double to highlight a five-run eighth inning for host Chicago.
Reds 5, Cardinals 3: Miguel Cairo hit a two-out, two-run, go-ahead single in the eighth in St. Louis.
