Albert Pujols hit his second homer of the game with two outs in the 12th inning to give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs yesterday in St. Louis.

Pujols had the ninth game-ending homer of his career and first since Aug. 16, 2009, against the Padres on a 2-and-1 pitch from Jeff Samardzija (3-2) as the Cardinals prevailed in 95-degree heat. Pujols has 41 career multihomer games, two of them this season, and has homered three times the last two games to emerge from a power funk.

This was only Pujols' second game with multiple extra-base hits of the season, and he drove in four runs.

Dodgers 11, Reds 8: Matt Kemp hit a tying grand slam in the eighth for his second homer of the game, and Jamey Carroll singled in the go-ahead run in the 11th as visiting Los Angeles improved to 5-0 in extra innings.

Rockies 2, Giants 1: Troy Tulowitzki had three hits and drove in a run, and Jhoulys Chacin (6-4) pitched six effective innings for visiting Colorado.

Rays 3, Mariners 2: Jeremy Hellickson picked up where he left off in May, pitching neatly into the eighth inning for visiting Tampa Bay. Hellickson (7-3) allowed one run and three hits over 7 1-3 innings, improving to 6-1 with a 1.74 ERA in his last seven starts. The righthander won the AL pitcher of the month award in May.

Rollins leaves with injury

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins left Saturday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates during the third inning with a bruised right knee. Rollins fouled a ball off his knee during the first at-bat of the game. He stayed in the game and doubled before scoring, but then came out.
