Rays pitcher Brian Bush faces charges after fleeing crash
A Tampa Bay Rays player faces multiple charges after leaving the scene of an accident that seriously injured a man on a motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
FHP said 26-year-old Matthew Brian Bush was driving south on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte Thursday afternoon when he struck the motorcycle driven by 72-year-old Anthony Tufano.
After the accident, Bush drove north on U.S. 41. Multiple police agencies were notified and his 2011 Dodge Durango was located a short time later, the FHP said. Bush was arrested and taken to Charlotte County Jail. He remained in jail without bond on Friday morning.
Bush faces multiple DUI- related charges and counts of leaving the scene of an injury accident and driving with a suspended license.
The arrest report indicates Bush has had previous DUI-related incidents in Arizona and California.
Tufano was taken to a Lee County hospital in serious condition. According to FHP, Tufano was run over by Bush's vehicle.
Bush is a pitcher in the Rays minor league organization. The Rays spend spring training in nearby Port Charlotte.
