Reports: Jason Bay agrees to deal with Seattle Mariners

Jason Bay has a fresh start. And it's about as far away from New York as possible.

The former Met, who negotiated his way out of a disappointing tenure in New York earlier this offseason, has agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Seattle Mariners, pending a physical, according to multiple reports. Andy Martino first reported the news.

After hitting at least 21 home runs every year from 2004-2009, Bay became a major disappointment after signing as a free agent with the Mets. He batted just .234 during his three injury-filled seasons, hitting a total of 26 home runs. He bottomed out in 2012, hitting a career-worst .165 with eight home runs and becoming a target of fan derision.
