Roger Clemens to pitch against Long Island Ducks on Sept. 7

That's when Clemens will make his second start for the Sugar Land Skeeters, an unaffiliated Texas team which plays in the Atlantic League, according to Fox 26 Sports. Clemens will face the Ducks in Sugar Land, a Houston-area suburb.

Clemens, 50, pitched 3.1 scoreless innings during his debut on Aug. 25, allowing just one hit and striking out two. He reached 87 mph with his fastball.

"Looks like we'll be on the 7th," Clemens said in a text to the Houston Chronicle. "Still talking to Randy" (Hendricks). Hendricks is Clemens' agent.

The Sugar Land Skeeters confirmed the report Thursday afternoon. Clemens will start at home against the Ducks.

“To face a pitcher of his caliber will be a tremendous experience for our club,” says Ducks manager Kevin Baez. “Roger had a great Major League career, and we’re excited for the opportunity to play against him.”

Clemens was 354-184 with a 3.12 ERA during a 24-season career in the major leagues, winning seven Cy Young awards. He last pitched on a major-league mound in 2007 as a member of the Yankees.

After he retired he was included in the Mitchell Report and accused of using performance enhancing drugs. Clemens publicly fought the assertion, leading to an appearance before congress and, ultimately, a federal perjury trial. He was acquitted in June.

Clemens is due to appear on the next Hall of Fame ballot. But if his comeback leads to an appearance in the majors, his Hall of Fame eligibility is delayed by five years.

Scouts from the Kansas City Royals and Houston Astros were in attendance during his last start, though Royals general manager Dayton Moore has since said his team isn't interested in signing Clemens. Astros GM Jeff Lunhow thought Clemens "looked good," while Astros owner Jim Crane has left open the possibility of signing Clemens.

Clemens pitched for the Astros from 2004-06, going 38-18 with a 2.40 ERA.
