Roberts hits HR as Orioles improve to 4-0
Brian Roberts hit a three-run homer, Jake Arrieta allowed one run in six innings and the unbeaten Baltimore Orioles thrilled a sellout crowd in their home opener by defeating the Detroit Tigers, 5-1, yesterday.
Off to its best start since 1997, Baltimore (4-0) has not yet trailed, hasn't given up more than one run in a game and has outscored the opposition 17-4.
Arrieta (1-0) gave up six hits, walked two and struck out three. Orioles starters have allowed two runs in 26 innings, a 0.69 ERA.
Braves 2, Brewers 1: Martin Prado and Dan Uggla homered off Takashi Saito in the eighth, rallying the Braves and spoiling the Brewers' home opener.
Peter Moylan (1-0) got three outs to get the win, and Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his second save.
Milwaukee's Richie Weeks hit his third home run of the season.
Cubs 4, Diamondbacks 1: Randy Wells pitched six solid innings, Kerry Wood escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and the Cubs got a home run from Alfonso Soriano at Wrigley Field.
Suppan back to Royals Jeff Suppan, a 16-year veteran who was Kansas City's best pitcher 10 years ago, has signed a minor-league contract with the Royals. The 36-year-old will report to Triple-A Omaha. -- AP
