Strasburg battered in three innings

Ben Zobrist's two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning Friday night gave host Tampa Bay a 3-1 win over Texas. It was a perfect finish to a night that began with his wife, Julianna, singing the national anthem.

Said Rays manager Joe Maddon, "That may be the first time in history that happens, where the wife sings the national anthem and the husband hits a walk-off homer."

Athletics 6, Mariners 1: George Kottaras hit a three-run homer as visiting Oakland beat Felix Hernandez (13-7), who allowed 11 hits in 42/3 innings.

Angels 3, Tigers 2: Alberto Callaspo's two-out RBI single in the ninth gave host Los Angeles its ninth win in 10 games. Prince Fielder and Alex Avila homered off Angels starter Ervin Santana, who passed the Yankees' Phil Hughes for the major-league lead in homers allowed with 34.

Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 5: Edwin Encarnacion (No. 38) hit one of visiting Toronto's three homers.

Royals 7, White Sox 5: Lorenzo Cain hit two homers, including a tiebreaking two-run shot in the ninth for visiting Kansas City.

Marlins 9, Nationals 7: Washington's Stephen Strasburg, who matched his career low by lasting only three innings, allowed five runs in what likely was his final home start this season. Jose Reyes tripled twice and drove in three runs for Miami, including a two-run triple in the 10th. Strasburg, 15-6 with a 3.16 ERA and 197 strikeouts in 1591/3 innings, is expected to be shut down after Wednesday's start against the Mets at Citi Field.

Giants 5, Dodgers 2: Marco Scutaro had a two-run single in the seventh for host San Francisco.

Padres 6, Diamondbacks 5: Chase Headley had two homers and four RBIs for host San Diego.

Cubs 12, Pirates 2: Travis Wood gave up one hit in six innings for visiting Chicago. Pittsburgh made seven errors.

Astros 5, Reds 3: Matt Dominguez hit a three-run homer in the ninth to snap Aroldis Chapman's streak of 27 straight saves for Cincinnati.

Phillies 3, Rockies 2: Nate Schierholtz had an RBI single in the ninth for host Philadelphia.-- AP
