Apologies for the profound tardiness today. Got home late, slept in this morning and then had some friends over for brunch. That meant no blogging time, and with the late hour, let's change "Sunday reading" to "Sunday quick hits":

--Top news of the day: Rest in peace, Jose Lima. A true character of the game, at a time when such characters have faded into the background. Lima always had plenty to say, and he put up a couple of decent years, if not for the Mets.

--Here's my column from last night, on David Wright reminding fans (through his play) that that the Mets have far greater problems.

I'm still stumped that the Mets are keeping Jenrry Mejia around in their bullpen, especially now that Ryota Igarashi is off the disabled list. Where's the long-range thinking?

--My Sunday Insider features items on the Blue Jays, Doug Glanville and Joe Nathan.

--Check out this interesting find, concerning players walking on the pitcher's mound. Does this exonerate Alex Rodriguez? I'm not sure he never needed to be exonerated for the Dallas Braden issue.

--Awesome footage of an Orioles-White Sox game from 1976.

--Enjoy the game tonight. Tomorrow, we'll be back to our normal blogging schedule, including a live chat at noon.
