ARLINGTON, Texas -- Jim Leyland had more immediate concerns than another rainstorm disrupting his postseason.
He's lost another outfielder.
Shortly after ALCS Game 2 was postponed Sunday afternoon and rescheduled for 4:19 p.m. EDT Monday, the Tigers' manager announced that rightfielder Magglio Ordoñez has been lost for the rest of the postseason.
Ordonez again fractured his right ankle, which was surgically repaired in July 2010. He had missed more than a month this summer because of problems with that ankle.
Leftfielder Delmon Young, who hit three homers against the Yankees in the ALDS, was not put on the ALCS roster after being pulled from ALDS Game 5 with an oblique injury.
"We're a real resilient team," Leyland said. "Do I like this? Obviously, no. Do I like losing Delmon? Obviously, no. But we're a tough team. We'll figure something out and we'll get through this."
At some point in the Tigers' 3-2 loss to the Rangers in ALCS Game 1 Saturday night, Leyland said, Ordoñez reinjured the ankle that he broke last season. He drew an intentional walk between the first and second rain delays of Game 1 and was replaced by pinch runner Don Kelly after the second delay.
"My trainer [Kevin Rand] came in during the rain delay and said Magglio can't go, the ankle is killing him," Leyland said. "It doesn't appear there was any significant movement or anything that did it. It just all of a sudden flared up."
The Tigers did not immediately make an announcement regarding their roster. Infielder Danny Worth replaced Young on the ALCS roster.
"They've been resilient all year," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Knowing Jim Leyland, his team will be ready to play tomorrow. They still have enough."
Leyland said the postponement will not affect his rotation. Max Scherzer will start Game 2, as scheduled, followed by Doug Fister in Game 3, Rick Porcello in Game 4 and Game 1 starter Justin Verlander in Game 5.
The Texas rotation also will remain the same, with Derek Holland in Game 2, Colby Lewis in Game 3, Matt Harrison in Game 4 and Game 1 starter C.J. Wilson in Game 5. Games 3-5 are to be in Detroit Tuesday through Thursday.
Meanwhile, there's been so much rain in this ALCS, you'd think the Yankees were playing in it.
Game 2, which was scheduled to be played Sunday night, was postponed at about 3:20 p.m. EDT Sunday because of a hideous forecast that called for steady rain to fall unabated Sunday night into Monday.
Game 1 featured two rain delays during the fifth inning, one lasting 41 minutes and one lasting 1 hour, 9 minutes.
In a twist, Game 2 was called by the commissioner's office shortly after the tarp was pulled off the field, with the rain having subsided for the moment.
"With the forecast that we had, we didn't want to experience what we did last night," Rangers president and CEO Nolan Ryan said. "With the forecast for this evening, it appears it's going to be a duplication of what we saw last night. I think the one thing we're concerned about is the integrity of the game and not put either team in a situation where possibly the elements could affect the outcome of the game."
