Shane Victorino hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, Placido Polanco had a three-run shot and the host Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-3, yesterday.

One day after beating Roy Halladay, the Brewers took a 3-0 lead into the sixth against Cliff Lee and were trying to complete their first sweep in Philadelphia.

But Polanco connected off starter Chris Narveson to tie it in the sixth. Victorino then hit a long drive to right-center off Brandon Kintzler (1-1) to put the Phillies up 4-3.

"That was huge," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said. "Games like this keep you from going in a tailspin."

Prince Fielder had three hits and two RBIs and Jonathan Lucroy hit a solo homer for the Brewers, who tagged Lee for three runs (two earned) and eight hits in six innings.

Nationals 8, Cardinals 6: Laynce Nix homered and drove in two runs and visiting Washington chased Jake Westbrook (1-2) with a six-run third inning in the first game of a doubleheader. John Lannan (2-1) was in and out of trouble in five innings, inducing two double-play balls and holding St. Louis hitless in seven at-bats with men on base. The only damage came on solo homers by Albert Pujols and Colby Rasmus.

Cubs 2, Padres 1: Reed Johnson's homer in the bottom of the 11th won it for Chicago in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

Rockies 10, Giants 2: Jorge De La Rosa (3-0) overcame a shaky start to pitch seven sharp innings and Ty Wigginton tied a career high with four RBIs, including a three-run homer for host Colorado.

Red Sox 5, Athletics 3: Kevin Youkilis and Jed Lowrie homered off the previously untouchable Gio Gonzalez and Boston got its first road win of the season after seven straight losses. Gonzalez (2-1) came into the game having thrown 17 straight scoreless innings and having allowed only one run in three starts for an 0.47 ERA. But he allowed an RBI single to Carl Crawford in the second, a solo homer to Youkilis in the fourth and the two-run shot by Lowrie in the sixth.

Tigers 3, Mariners 2: Rick Porcello (1-2) gave up one run and four hits while pitching into the seventh inning and Ryan Raburn homered for visiting Detroit. -- AP
