Rookie righthander Vance Worley threw a three-hitter and Chase Utley hit an inside-the-park homer to lead the host Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants Tuesday night in a matchup of the NL's top teams.

Worley (7-1) had five strikeouts and one walk, and has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 13 starts. It was Worley's fifth straight win.

Ryan Howard, John Mayberry Jr. and Raul Ibañez also homered for the Phillies (65-37). Aaron Rowand homered for the Giants (59-44).

Barry Zito (3-3), a late replacement for scheduled starter Tim Lincecum, allowed six runs and six hits in seven innings, struck out four and walked two. Lincecum was scratched because of a stomach illness. Lincecum (8-8, 2.90 ERA) is day to day and could pitch in tonight's game.

Cardinals 3, Astros 1: Albert Pujols homered in the first inning for the third time in the last six games and Jake Westbrook (9-4) made it hold up with six innings of one-run ball for host St. Louis.

Red Sox 13, Royals 9: David Ortiz had four hits and five RBIs, and Dustin Pedroia had four of host Boston's 16 hits to lead the Red Sox to their 18th win in 22 games.

Angels 2, Indians 1: Jered Weaver (14-4) earned his eighth straight win as Mark Trumbo doubled home two runs to lead visiting Los Angeles.

Twins 9, Rangers 8: Joe Mauer drove in the go-ahead run with a pinch-hit double off closer Neftali Feliz in a two-run ninth as visiting Minnesota rallied.

Jones out of lineup

Braves third baseman Chipper Jones did not start against the Pirates in Atlanta after he strained his right quadriceps in Monday night's game. Jones pinch hit in the eighth and grounded out. -- AP
