How the Yankees’ top minor league prospects have fared so far this season (all stats through Friday):
1. Mason Williams
OF | Tampa Yankees (Single A Advanced)
.258 BA, .379 OBP, .392 SLG, 2 HR, 10 RBIs
Williams has walked just as many times as he’s struck out – 18 times.
2. Slade Heathcott
OF | Trenton Thunder (Double A)
.169 BA, .258 OBP, .260 SLG, 1 HR, 7 RBIs
Has struggled to hit since promotion to Double-A, but patience at the plate remains impressive.
3. Gary Sanchez
C | Tampa Yankees (Single A advanced)
.253 BA, .336 OBP, .434 SLG, 4 HR, 18 RBIs
After a blazing start to his year, Sanchez has cooled down considerably but still possesses solid numbers.
4. Tyler Austin
OF | Trenton Thunder (Double A)
.250 BA, .390 OBP, .340 SLG, 1 HR, 12 RBIs
After walking 66 times in 677 plate appearances prior to this season, Austin already has 22 walks in 123 PAs with Trenton.
5. Jose Campos
RHP | Charleston Riverdogs (Single A)
0-1, 6.00 ERA, 16 K, 6 BB in 5 games (4 starts)
His second stint in Single-A has been disappointing, due mostly to an increase in walks and three home runs allowed in 15 innings.
6. Brett Marshall
RHP | Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple A)
1-2, 5.33 ERA, 21 K, 17 BB in five starts
The sinkerballer’s strikeout numbers are encouraging, but he’s walking far too many hitters. Also given up 29 hits in 25.1 innings.
7. Angelo Gumbs
2B | Tampa Yankees (Single A advanced)
.088 BA, .139 OBP, .147 SLG, 0 HR, 3 RBIs
Has struggled to start the year, and development is further slowed by a current stint on the 7-day disabled list.
8. Manny Banuelos
LHP | Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple A)
Has not yet played due to injury
Control issues and 2012 Tommy John surgery knocked some of the prospect sheen off.
9. Ty Hensley
RHP | Not yet assigned
Season not yet started
Durable, hard-throwing starter needs to improve movement and deception.
10. Rafael De Paula
RHP | Charleston Riverdogs (Single A)
2-2, 2.96 ERA, 46 K, 15 BB in six starts
After a rocky start to the year, De Paula has come on in a big way, striking out hitters at a rate of 15.1 per nine innings.
