Alex Rodriguez's surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee went as expected Monday, the Yankees announced. Orthopedic surgeon Lee Kaplan performed the procedure in Miami and will oversee the early stages of Rodriguez's rehabilitation.
Rodriguez, who will turn 36 on July 27, is expected to miss four to six weeks.
Batting .295 with 13 home runs and 52 runs batted in, he had been voted to start in Tuesday night's All-Star Game but, after being in discomfort for weeks, submitted to an MRI Friday that revealed a slight tear in his meniscus.
