Aaron Judge says wrist injury is progressing
Aaron Judge on Tuesday went through what has become his usual pregame routine. Run a bit in the outfield, do some agility work and lightly toss the ball around.
But the rightfielder, out since July 27 with a chip fracture in his right wrist, still doesn’t seem close to doing what will be the most significant step of his rehab: swinging a bat.
“I’ll wake up one of these days and feel good,” Judge said before heading to the field. “Just waiting for that day.”
Judge said there’s been progress.
“The pain’s going down,” he said. “If it was a five two weeks ago, it’s gone down to a four. It’s just kind of working its way down. So we’re just trying to get it down to zero and move forward.”
While Judge’s recovery hasn’t gone quite as quickly as he, or the Yankees, hoped, Judge said “not at all” when asked if he had concerns that it wouldn’t heal at all.
“It takes about six weeks for something like this to totally heal, so we’re in week [five],” Judge said. “When I’m ready, I’m ready.”
Doctors have told Judge he can play with the bone not completely healed; it’s a matter of the pain going away.
“I don’t need surgery, I don’t need anything like that,” Judge said. “You can play with it before it actually fully heals. So it’s just getting [the pain level] down to 0.”
