Alex Rodriguez happy with how spring training went

MIAMI — Alex Rodriguez went 0-for-2 in the Yankees’ 2-1 loss to the Marlins in the spring training finale on Saturday. He finished the exhibition season with 12 hits in 49 at-bats (.245) and one extra-base hit — a home run in his first at-bat of spring training.
A-Rod said he isn’t concerned about his lack of power going into Monday’s season opener against Houston at Yankee Stadium.
“I didn’t know there was a lack,” he said. “I don’t know what the numbers are. I thought it was a good spring for me. I thought it was a good spring for the team. I think everybody’s excited for Monday.”
Rodriguez, 40, said his only concern was staying healthy. He did not play an inning in the field in Florida and won’t in the regular season unless something really strange happens.
“I feel great,” he said. “I’m excited. Ready to go.”
Said manager Joe Girardi: “I think he’s hit some balls hard. I don’t make too much of spring training for the older guys. You can’t. We had some guys who didn’t really hit too well in spring, but you don’t make too much out of it. If it happens during the season, then it becomes a little bit different story, but I think he’ll be fine.”
Headley sick
Chase Headley’s availability for the opener is in doubt. He is battling a stomach ailment and fever and did not play for the second straight day.
“He’s not feeling good today,” Girardi said.
Asked if Headley could miss the opener, Girardi said: “Could be. I don’t know. I don’t know how long this is going to run.”
If Headley is unable to play, Ronald Torreyes will start at third base.
Extra bases
Girardi said switch hitter Aaron Hicks will start on Monday against lefthander Dallas Keuchel but added that he hadn’t decided if Brett Gardner or Jacoby Ellsbury will sit. Girardi benched Ellsbury against Keuchel in last year’s wild-card game in favor of Chris Young . . . The Yankees traded catcher Carlos Corporan to Tampa Bay for cash.
