Empty feeling: Best hope is to face Cliff Lee again

        No pie in the face today. Only egg of the face of anyone who had said after the Yankees made that inspired comeback to win Game 1 that the series was over. Admittedly, this blog seemed to lean that way.

        The way it looks now, had it not been for that one hot inning by the Yankees, this series really would be over now.

          Many Yankees fans, who have a reputataion for being hardy, never-say-die souls, left the park early again last night. it was an eerie, empty scene. The best that the Yankees can hope for is another matchup with Cliff Lee, who was far more frustrating for the Yankees Monday night than the Yankees' comeback was for the Rangers last Friday night. Lee is unbeaten for his career in the postseason and he looked close to unhittable by the Yankees in Game 3.

           Not that the Yankees have been hitting anyone with any consistency. They had chances to break open Game 4 and they failed agaisnt Tommy Hunter and Derek Holland. The 2010 postseason debut of A.J. Burnett, the old pie-thrower, did not turn out so well. He was kept in the game too long, by one batter.

            So they Yankees have put themselves in this bind: their only hope is what had been, as of a day ago, their worst-case scenario.
