Yankees acquire infielder Hanser Alberto from Rangers

Looking to add to their organizational infield depth, especially with Didi Gregorius slated to miss at least the first two months of next season and likely more than that after undergoing Tommy John surgery, the Yankees acquired infielder Hanser Alberto off waivers from the Rangers on Friday and added him to their 40-man roster.
Alberto, 26, played in 13 games with the Rangers last season, five of them at shortstop, and hit .185 with a .241 on-base percentage. In parts of three seasons in the big leagues, the righthanded-hitting Alberto has appeared in 81 games total – 34 at second base, 22 at short, 21 at third, four at first and 10 at DH.
Alberto spent most of last season with Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League and had a .330/.346/.452 slash line, seven homers and 58 RBIs in 101 games. Forty-four of those games were at short and 43 came at first base.
