"Derek Jeter 3K," a documentary chronicling the days up to and including Jeter's 3,000th hit July 9, will premiere on HBO at 9 p.m. next Thursday, the network announced.

The hourlong program, produced by Major League Baseball Productions, will provide rare behind-the-scenes footage of Jeter at home and in other off-field locations, and will include sound from two games in which he agreed for the first time to be wired -- July 7, when he got his 2,998th hit, and July 9, when he went 5-for-5, including a home run for his 3,000th hit.

Among those interviewed will be members of Jeter's family as well as his longtime girlfriend, actress Minka Kelly.

David Check, executive producer for MLB Productions, said he visited Jeter at his apartment before that weekend's series against the Rays and persuaded him to be wired in part by playing a recording of Cal Ripken Jr. during a game in which MLBP recorded him.
