Mark Teixeira returns from injured wrist

CHICAGO -- Three days were enough of a break for Mark Teixeira. The first baseman, who sat the previous three games with inflammation in his left wrist, started at first Monday night, hit cleanup and had two RBI singles.
"We had him go through what he needed to go through [in drills]," Joe Girardi said. "He said he's ready to go and feels good."
And while the manager typically errs on the side of caution with injuries, that was all he needed to hear from Teixeira. "He just needed to tell me his wrist felt good and that's what he told me," Girardi said.
CC closing in
From the time he was put on the disabled list Aug. 11 -- retroactive to Aug. 9 -- CC Sabathia has been resolute he'll start Friday in Cleveland.
Girardi has been just as resolute in not committing.
"I want to see how he comes out of his bullpen before we make a decision," Girardi said.
Sabathia is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today.
"I just want to play it by ear," Girardi said. "But there's nothing that [tells me] he won't be able to pitch."
Change of scenery
Robinson Cano was happy to leave the Stadium and a 1-for-17 homestand behind. Cano's fifth-inning single Sunday snapped an 0-for-16 stretch, but after going 1-for-4 Monday night, he is 3 for his last 30.
"It's something you don't want to go through but the good thing is we're winning right now," Cano said. "I've hit some balls hard, just right at people. It's part of the game. You're going to have ups and downs. I know one day it's going to turn around."
Girardi is convinced.
"I look at his at-bats, his at-bats have been pretty good," Girardi said. "I don't worry a whole lot about Robbie."
