The Yankees put RHP Sergio Mitre on the 15-day DL with shoulder tendinitis and called up LHP Steve Garrison from Double-A Trenton. Garrison, 24, spent spring training with the Yankees and was 3-6 with a 6.86 ERA in nine starts with Trenton, coincidentally his birthplace.

“I haven’t stopped sweating since this morning,” Garrison said. His mother, Patty, drove him to Philadelphia International Airport yesterday and he flew directly to Tampa, arriving about two hours before the game.

Girardi said Garrison’s role could be anywhere from long man to lefty specialist.
