Soriano doesn't get job done for first time

There have been times this season when Rafael Soriano has made the Yankees forget about Mariano Rivera.
Sunday was not one of those times.
The de facto closer -- or actually, the replacement for Rivera's first replacement, the injured David Robertson -- suffered his first blown save in 10 chances before the Yankees rallied for a 5-4 victory.
Soriano didn't even complete the ninth. After giving up back-to-back doubles to Lucas Duda and Ike Davis, Soriano needed a brilliant play by shortstop Jayson Nix to cut down Davis at third base. When pinch hitter Daniel Murphy bounced a single through the right side to put runners at the corners, Joe Girardi called for Boone Logan to face another pinch hitter, Josh Thole. Soriano left to a chorus of boos, and Logan got a strikeout and grounder to escape the jam.
Girardi said: "It's a tough situation, but I was going for the strikeout of the lefthanded hitter. It's really hard to [take him out], but I'm throwing [Soriano] right back out there."
Kuroda seems OKHiroki Kuroda, who suffered a bruised left heel in Friday's win, completed his scheduled bullpen session before the game and remains on track to start Wednesday against the Braves at Turner Field.
Extra basesGirardi smiled but was not entirely amused when someone asked if Nick Swisher had bunted on his own in the second inning. With runners at first and second, none out and the Yankees trailing 3-0, Swisher bunted right back to Jon Niese, who gunned down Alex Rodriguez at third. "He's just trying to get on base," Girardi said. "But as I told him, he's capable of hitting the ball out of the ballpark." . . . In its last nine starts since June 1, the Yankees' rotation is 6-1 with a 1.95 ERA . . . A-Rod's single in the eighth moved him past Eddie Murray into seventh place on the all-time RBI list with 1,918.
