Soriano's best option could be Yankees

Eighth inning reliever Rafael Soriano could opt-out of his contract after this season or next.

But why would he?

He;'s already receiving closer-like salary with a three-year deal for $35 miillion (averaging $11.6 per season) and only the Yankees seemed interested in signing him as a free agent. 

So, how much more could he expect to earn elsewhere? Not much, given what some of the top closers will earn this season: 

A look at the highest paid:

Mariano Rivera, Yankees: Two years, $30 million.

Francisco Cordero, Reds: $12 million.

Jonathan Papelbon, Red Sox: $12 million.

Brad Lidge, Phillies: $11.5 million.

Francisco Rodriguez, Mets: $11.5 million (could make $17.5 in 2012). 

Joe Nathan, Twins: $11.2 million.

Health Bell, Padres: $7.5 million.

Jonathan Broxton, Dodgers:  $ 7 million.

Brian Wilson, Giants: $6.5 million.

Carlos Marmol, Cubs: three years, $20 million.

Joakim Soria, Royals: $4 million.
