Sterling's HR call on Thames goes deep

Most of John Sterling's home run calls are rather simple to deciper. But his ``Happy Thames are here again''  for Marcus Thames is rooted in musical history.

It is a play on the 1929 song ``Happy Days Are Here Again,''  which became the title song in  the 1930 movie ``Chasing Rainbows.''  The song has nothing to do with baseball, but all to do with the repeal of Prohibition, which had banned alcohol.  .

Franklin Delano Roosevelt used the song for his 1932 presidential campaign and it became the anthem of the Democratic party.

Sterling enjoys old songs and often makes references to them in the broadcasts.
