Chasen Shreve had a closer connection than most to the mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas.

The 27-year-old lefthanded reliever was born and raised in Las Vegas and said about 10 of his friends were at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival Sunday night when the shooting occurred.

“Shocking, obviously,” Shreve said Monday at Yankee Stadium. “You never want that to happen anywhere, but it’s my hometown, it hurts a little bit more. I had a bunch of friends there. Nobody hurt, thankfully, but it’s awful . . . one of my friends said she was right there when the people next to her got hit [by gunfire]. They were all right there.”

Shreve said he found out about the news at about 8 a.m. Monday when his girlfriend called him. He said it’s a concert he’s attended in the past.

“I went a couple of years ago when I was in the minor leagues,” Shreve said. “I don’t think I’ve digested it yet. I’m just happy everybody I know is OK, but it’s just a tragic thing.”
