Yankees' Facebook page is hacked

The Yankees issued an apology on the team's Facebook page Thursday after hackers posted an announcement that Derek Jeter will miss the rest of the season to undergo sex-change surgery.
"He promises to come back stronger than ever in 2013 as Minnie Mantlez,'' read part of the Jeter posting, which did not stay up long.
The Yankees were one of multiple teams that had their Facebook pages hacked Thursday. The Marlins, White Sox, Giants, Padres, Cubs and Nationals were the others, according to Reuters.
"We apologize for anything inappropriate that appeared on the Yankees' Facebook page," the team posted shortly after the hackers' post was removed. "The Yankees' Facebook page is controlled by Major League Baseball Advanced Media. They are looking into the false post in cooperation with Facebook." The club declined to comment further.
MLB said in a statement: "For a brief moment today, a few MLB Club Facebook accounts were hacked and inappropriate material was briefly on display . . . MLB Advanced Media oversees these Facebook pages on behalf of the Clubs and regrets this occurrence. We are working with Facebook, Major League Baseball Security and, where appropriate, legal authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding this situation."
