"He's hit everywhere he's been" was Joe Girardi's response after every big spring training game infielder Jorge Vazquez had this year. There were plenty of them.

Vazquez, 29, who had a standout 10-year career in the Mexican League before the Yankees signed him in 2008, hit .412 in 20 exhibition games with three homers and a .765 slugging percentage.

And he's still hitting.

Entering Thursday, Vazquez was batting .308 with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with an International League-leading 16 homers, three more than teammate Justin Maxwell.

What will prohibit the Yankees from promoting the infielder, who played mostly at first base and a little at third in spring training, should a need arise? The 5-11, 225-pound Vazquez is a liability with his glove. He has, as Girardi said, hit everywhere he's been but has not distinguished himself in the field.
