Yankees' Mark Teixeira out second day with sore left wrist

Mark Teixeira’s sore left wrist isn’t getting much better.
“I’m a little bit concerned if it’s going to get to 100 percent,” Joe Girardi said before Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Boston at the Stadium. “He was better after the few days off a couple weeks ago, then it seemed to come back a little bit. So that raises a little bit of a red flag.”
Girardi all but eliminated the possibility of Teixeira playing Sunday and didn’t rule out a longer absence.
"We want to get him as healthy as we can, so if I have to give him a little bit more than a couple days or three days, then I have to do it,” Girardi said. “If we feel after two or three days, maybe he needs a whole week. If he needs two weeks, we’ll do that.”
The disabled list, for now, does not appear to be an option.
General manager Brian Cashman said by phone Saturday that no tests were scheduled for the wrist Teixeira hurt July 29 against the Red Sox. Teixeira sat July 31 and Aug. 1 and had what amounted to three days off as the Yankees did not play Aug. 2.
The inflammation Teixeira was diagnosed with — and for which he received a cortisone shot — dissipated but returned in recent days.
“The doctor said let’s back off and give it a few days and then try to get him going again,” Cashman said. “But it doesn’t mean it’s not going to linger.”
The situation brings back memories of 2010 when Teixeira spent the last five weeks of the regular season and into the playoffs dealing with a bone bruise in his right hand that never really got any better.
“Tex is good at playing beat up, he’s used to it,” Girardi said. “We’ll try to get him back as soon as we can.”
