Joe Girardi said Masahiro Tanaka will make his debut Sunday in Clearwater against the Phillies, followed by Michael Pineda on Monday at home against the Astros and CC Sabathia on Tuesday in Jupiter against the Marlins. Ivan Nova, who pitched Thursday, will face the Mets in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday.
Nathan Eovaldi, out for a week with groin tightness, threw a bullpen session Thursday. He will make his first start against the Blue Jays at home next Thursday.
Nova solid
Nova, who likely will start the season in the bullpen unless there is an injury among the starters, allowed one run and two hits in two innings against the Phillies.
“I just have to prove to myself that I can be in the rotation,” he said. “I don’t have to prove to them anything. I think they’ve seen enough from me. This is going to be my seventh year in the league. I don’t worry about trying to impress my manager or pitching coach, I just have to concentrate on doing my job.”
