Yankees score 12 runs in record-breaking first inning

The Yankees broke the team record for runs in a first inning in the second half of Saturday's day-night doubleheader against the Orioles.
New York scored 12 runs in the first; nine off of starter Zach Britton, chasing him after 1/3 of an inning, and another three off Jason Berken, who entered the game in relief.
Eight Yankees scored at least one run in the inning, seven drove in at least one run, and every member of the starting lineup had at least one hit.
According to the Yankees' public relations Twitter account (@YankeesPR), it was the most runs scored in any inning by the Yankees since scoring 13 runs in the eighth inning of a game on June 21, 2005.
The Yankees went on to win 17-3.
The benefactor of the run support for New York was Ivan Nova, making his first start since July 1. He allowed two earned runs over seven innings, and improved to 9-4.
Earlier, the Yankees beat the Orioles in the first half of the doubleheader, 8-3. Bartolo Colon improved to 8-5 in the win, and Nick Swisher homered and had a double.
