Yankees trade Justin Wilson to Tigers for 2 young righties

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Yankees entered the winter meetings not having done a whole lot this offseason.
That changed quickly.
One day after dealing for second baseman Starlin Castro, the Yankees traded lefthander Justin Wilson to the Tigers in exchange for righthanded minor-league starters Luis Cessa and Chad Green.
Speaking earlier in the day, general manager Brian Cashman said a priority this offseason was adding starting pitching depth in his high minor leagues, something this trade achieved.
The 23-year-old Cessa went 8-10 with a 4.52 ERA in 25 starts for three clubs in the Detroit system last season, finishing with Triple-A Toledo, where he went 1-3 with a 5.97 ERA.
Green, 24, spent his entire season with Double-A Erie, going 5-14 with a 3.93 ERA. He struck out 137 and walked 43 over 148 2⁄3 innings.
The 28-year-old Wilson, acquired last offseason in exchange for Francisco Cervelli, was a surprising stalwart out of Joe Girardi’s 2015 bullpen, posting a 3.10 ERA in 74 appearances.
