Yanks bust it open
The Yankees broke a 2-2 tie with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. All nine runs were earned and came off four different Detroit pitchers.
New York, looking for its third straight win, did it on four walks, six hits (including two doubles, a triple and a home run) and a passed ball.
Robinson Cano made it 3-2 with an RBI double to the wall in left-center to score Mark Teixeira. And Cano capped the scoring with a two-run bomb to dead center that landed in the netting over the monuments to make it 11-2.
Sergio Mitre is now pitching for the Yanks, meaning Phil Hughes will likely get his 15th win. Also, Eduardo Nunez is making his major-league debut at short, replacing Derek Jeter.
