Thoughts: The Yankees' third straight loss, combined with the Rays' third straight victory, put the Yankees back into second place. As we've discussed extensively here, is that really such a terrible thing? The Yankees never lack for confidence against the Twins. They do against Texas' Cliff Lee.

The Rays and Twins have identical, 92-61 records. The Rays get the edge because they won the season series against Minnesota, 5-3.

The Braves, meanwhile, fell out of the playoff mix with their loss to Washington and the Padres' victory over Cincinnati. Bobby Cox has eight games left in his managerial career to right the ship.
