DENVER -- Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri says backup point guard Andre Miller wants to stay in Denver and the team will work hard to make that happen.

Miller is an unrestricted free agent. He' a 13-year veteran who backed up starter Ty Lawson last season in his second stint with the Nuggets.

He said after the Nuggets were eliminated in seven games by the Los Angeles Lakers last weekend that if he were going to remain a backup, it might as well be with a championship contender.

The Nuggets don't fit that bill yet, but they are growing with a young core of players including Lawson, Kenneth Faried and JaVale McGee, a restricted free agent whom Ujiri says the Nuggets will also work hard to re-sign this summer.
