Another day, another star lost to injury for the U.S. men's basketball team.

Anthony Davis sprained his ankle in a weekend workout with the Hornets, according to the team. The team added that they will evaluate his ability to practice with the national team later in the week; reports suggest it is unlikely Davis will play for the Olympic team.

Davis had been set to workout for Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski in July, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski

Davis' injury continues a rough stretch for the national team, after NBA champions Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh both backed out of consideration for the team last week. The No. 1 overall pick also adds to the spate of big men that will be unable to play for Team USA. In addition to Bosh and Davis, Dwight Howard will not make the trip to London, and Andrew Bynum announced he won't try out for Team USA.

Earlier in the summer, it looked all but certain that Lamar Odom, one of the players on the Team USA roster, would have no shot of traveling with the team to London. However, with depth up front now an issue -- Tyson Chandler, Kevin Love and Blake Griffin are the only three big men on the roster -- the new Clipper has a shot to not only secure a spot, but play a significant role.

Davis, a one-and-doner from Kentucky, was an easy choice for the Hornets at the top of the 2012 draft. A terror on defense and terrific shot blocker, many analysts pegged Davis as the only "sure thing" available in the draft pool. Those traits were one of the main reasons Davis looked to have a real shot of making the team; Chandler is the only big man currently on the roster who excels on 'D.'
