Bulls hand Heat fourth loss in row
Derrick Rose scored 27 points and Luol Deng capped an 18-point effort with two free throws that put Chicago ahead for good Sunday as the Bulls beat host Miami, 87-86, handing the Heat its fourth straight loss.
Carlos Boozer scored 12 and Joakim Noah 11 for the Bulls, who moved a game ahead of Miami into outright possession of second place in the Eastern Conference by beating the Heat for the third time this season.
LeBron James scored 26 points, Chris Bosh 23 and Dwyane Wade 20 for the Heat. James and Wade missed shots that would have won it for Miami in the final eight seconds.
It was the fourth time since Feb. 24 that Miami held a double-digit lead and ultimately lost. The Heat led by as many as 12 Sunday.
"One of these days, we will break through," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
Spoelstra stayed with the same lineup Sunday, saying the three-game slide coming into the day was not a reason for panic and even trying to bring some levity.
"I think we effectively have everybody off our bandwagon right now," he said. "So we have a lighter load."
Lakers 99, Spurs 83: Kobe Bryant scored 26 points and Pau Gasol had 21 as visiting Los Angeles embarrassed NBA-best San Antonio for its seventh consecutive victory.
What was billed as a potential Western Conference finals preview was a blowout from the start. And the Lakers likely relished this rout after losing twice to the Spurs.
"We know we're capable of having games like this and San Antonio knows we're capable of having games like this," Bryant said. "It just as easily could go the other way around."
Tony Parker led the Spurs with 14 points. He was their only starter in double figures.
76ers 125, Warriors 117: Andre Iguodala had his second straight triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for host Philadelphia, which needed overtime to down Golden State. Thaddeus Young and Evan Turner each scored 20 points for Philadelphia. Monta Ellis scored 18 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to rally the Warriors from an 18-point hole and force overtime. Stephen Curry scored 22 points and David Lee had 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Hornets' Paul injured
Chris Paul left the court on a stretcher in New Orleans' 96-81 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Hornets said the four-time All-Star was taken to the Cleveland Clinic, where tests showed that Paul had a concussion. Paul rejoined the Hornets at the arena and accompanied them on their charter flight to Chicago. He will miss Monday's game.
Paul was injured with 4:36 remaining in the third quarter when he lost the ball driving into the lane as he was defended by Ramon Sessions and Samardo Samuels. When Paul tried to retrieve the ball, he hit his forehead on Sessions' right shoulder and immediately fell to the court. The Hornets said Paul was fully conscious and never lost any feeling in any part of his body. Paul had 13 points and 11 assists in 26 minutes. - AP
