In mid-February, we took a second look at New York college alums in the D-League. At that point, there were seven players active in the league. We're now up to eight, former St. John's center Zendon Hamilton playing for the Springfield Armor.
Former Red Storm star D.J. Kennedy had a big night Tuesday with his 15-points, nine-rebound, nine-assist performance against Springfield. As the regular season wraps up -- playoffs start on April 10 -- here's how Kennedy and the other local stars have fared lately:
Antoine Agudio, Hofstra, Canton Charge
Agudio continues to be dynamite from long range, shooting 55.9 percent from three for the season. He had one of his best games of the year on March 30, scoring 29 points and shooting 6-for-7 from three in a 113-92 loss. It was the third time Agudio hit at least six threes in a game this year; he went 6-for-6 from deep on Dec. 17 against Idaho, and 7-for-7 from three en route to a season-high 31 points on Feb. 16 against Rio Grande Valley.
Justin Brownlee, St. John's, Maine Red Claws
Brownlee still hasn't been able to find that groove he hit at the beginning of the season, when the 6-7 forward scored in double digits nine straight games in December. Since Jan. 20, Brownlee has scored 10 or more points in a game just three times, one fewer time than he's been held scoreless.
Eric Devendorf, Syracuse, Reno Bighorns
Devendorf's been hot lately, dropping 22 points and 23 points in his last two games against Idaho. It was the first two times this year Devendorf scored 20 or more points. He's also played at least 20 minutes in the last four games after going 14 straight games without playing 20 points. Devendorf is averaging 9.3 points on 51.9 percent shooting with Reno.
Zendon Hamilton, St. John's, Springfield Armor
Hamilton was signed by the Springfield Armor in early March. He has offered a rebounding presence off the bench, pulling down seven or more rebounds in four of his 10 games. Hamilton, 36, spent some time in the NBA in the 2000s, but played mostly overseas.
Paul Harris, Syracuse, Iowa Energy
Harris, released by the Red Claws in late February, recently signed with the Iowa Energy. He's taken a prominent role on the team, scoring 33 points in 37 minutes in his second game with Iowa. At 6-4, Harris continues to rebound well for a guard, averaging just under six boards per game in four games with the Energy.
Jeff Foote, Cornell, Sprinfield Armor
Foote was called up to the New Orleans Hornets for four games in early March. He averaged one point and 1.5 rebounds in four games before being sent back down. The seven-footer continues to put up consistent numbers for Springfield, his double-double total up to 13, including four in March and April.
D.J. Kennedy, St. John's, Erie Bayhawks
As mentioned above, Kennedy is coming off of a near triple-double, falling one rebound and one assist short in a 110-108 win over Springfield. Kennedy has filled up the stat sheet all year, averaging 15.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 37.1 minutes per game. He has scored in double digits in all but five games this year. On March 31, he scored 25 points against Fort Wayne, the fifth time this season he scored at least 25.
Anthony Mason, St. John's, Sioux Falls Skyforce
Mason was a workhorse for Sioux Falls in March. He played at least 40 minutes eight times, including a 51-minute night against Springfield on March 29. He scored a season-high 34 points in a win on March 8, and matched the total 12 days later in a loss. Mason also recorded his second and third double-doubles of the season in March. He's upped his scoring average to 17.1 points per game from 16.6 in the last six weeks.
Edwin Ubiles, Siena, Dakota Wizards
Like Foote, Ubiles had a brief run in the NBA in March, playing for games for the Wizards. He averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13 minutes per game before being sent back to Dakota. Ubiles is averaging 20.2 points on 51.1 percent shooting this year. He scored a season-high 41 points on 18-for-26 shooting in a 127-110 win against Iowa on Feb. 28.
